Unveiling the Stances: Mayor and MPP Candidates for Oakville Riding Share Views on TOC

WE LOVE OAKVILLE ANNOUNCES THAT ALL LEADING PROVINCIAL MPP CANDIDATES FOR THE OAKVILLE RIDING SUPPORT CANCELING THE TOC AND MOVING FORWARD WITH OPA FOR MIDTOWN REDEVELOPMENT

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

FEBRUARY 25, 2025

OAKVILLE – On February 25, 2025 We Love Oakville (WLO) sent an open letter to Oakville’s Mayor and the provincial candidates for the Oakville riding asking them to publicly state their answers to three important questions:

  1. Will you support the Town’s OPA for Midtown that was approved on February 18, 2025?

  1. If elected, will you strongly advocate for the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing to swiftly approve the OPA across all of Midtown, without any carve outs, exceptions or exemptions for individual developers; and

  2. If elected, will you work with the province, regardless of political affiliation, to secure the Minister’s swift approval of the OPA, the termination of Infrastructure Ontario’s (IO) current proposed TOC and that IO be directed to work with the Town?

We are pleased to report that the Mayor and the two leading candidates for MPP for Oakville riding have fully supported our questions - and without qualification. Their responses are attached to this release.

WLO, which includes 12 residents’ associations and over 5000 Oakville residents, fully supports the approved OPA for Midtown as it satisfies both provincial requirements and Ontario’s Transit-Oriented Communities (TOC) goals.  The OPA provides an unique opportunity for the province to align Infrastructure Ontario’s draft Oakville TOC with the approved OPA in all material respects, thereby eliminating duplication, redundancy, unnecessary costs, and addressing the serious concerns raised Oakville residents.

“This is a win-win solution for all parties involved” says George Niblock, WLO spokesperson. “With the united support of our mayor, council, and the leading provincial candidates for MPP for our community, Infrastructure Ontario now needs to listen and deliver by terminating their Midtown TOC mistake and instead work with us and the Town to implement the approved OPA.”

We Love Oakville (WLO) was established in 2019 and is a non-partisan grassroots organization comprising residents associations throughout Oakville.  For more information on We Love Oakville and our Stop The TOC campaign visitwww.weloveoakville.org or contact Mr. George Niblock, (george@georgeniblock.com) Mr. Jim Goodfellow (jlgoodfellow@mac.com) or Ms Amanda Holden (amandaholden94@gmail.com).
