Ward 3 - All Candidates Meeting

The five Ward 3 Residents’ Associations** hosted an All Candidates Meeting on September 29th, in the cafeteria at Oakville Trafalgar High School. The room was full for the event, standing room only.  Organizers estimate a crowd of more than 500 residents.

All five Mayoral candidates, Rob Burton, Arvind Choudary, Julia Hanna, Jeff Knoll and Sean O’Meara, and both Ward 3 Town Councillor candidates, Morgan Elliott and Jen Zhou, participated in the question-and-answer sessions.

Although they did not participate in the Q&A sessions, Catholic School Board Trustee Candidates Martin Gegus and Tom Murad, and Public School Board Trustee Candidates Rebecca Mayville and Vinny Paramanand, also attended to mingle with residents before and after the Q&A.

Questions to the candidates were prepared by the organizing committee and collected from attendees.  These were posed by moderator Teddy Katz, an ex-broadcaster and resident of Ward 3.

The entire meeting was informative and engaging.  All candidates participated with humour and courtesy.  Their commitment to Oakville was very much appreciated by those of us attending.

A notable element of the event was a tribute, led by Ward 3 Regional Councillor Janet Haslett-Theall, to retiring councillors Dave Gittings, Cathy Duddeck and Allan Elgar.  With these three veterans retiring, and three more veterans of Council competing for the Mayor’s position, the new Council will be full of new faces.  Choosing the right members of council is more important than ever.  

If you missed this meeting, there will be another All Candidates Meeting. It will be held in Ward 2 on Sunday, October 18, 7 pm - 9 pm, at St. Aidan’s Church, 318 Queen Mary Drive; doors open 6:30 pm.

The meeting will be hosted by the West River Residents Association together with the Coronation Park Residents Association. All are welcome.

Make sure to go out and vote!
